Funny Cide still truckin'

Postby Heidilady » Tue Jan 17, 2006 10:21 pm

Activity type Workout
Activity date 01-17-2006
Track Gulfstream Park
Surface Dirt
Distance 4 Furlongs
Workout type Breezing
Workout time 0:47.80
Track condition Fast

He's certainly still drilling the ol' 4 furlongs and I just hope he gets back on track, no pun intended. You'd think they'd change the workout plan but obviously not. Such a nice horse to not see him turn in another thriller. He's so capable of it clearly. Shame if we miss out on more quality Funny Cide.

He is certainly a talented horse but has become a complete runaway. Therefore very difficult to train (most of his 2 minute licks are really breezes) and difficult to rate when racing.

They gelded him because he was a ridgling, not because he was underperforming as a racehorse  Which is a good idea, since you wouldn't want the undescended one to turn cancerous.

Gelding is almost always a good idea,

Looking at some of the stallions in the registry, it should be done much more often

If you have a ridgeling you really should go in and remove the undescended one because they do have a much higher rate of cancer. And they can really produce the testosterone ironically which can make a stallion pretty mean indeed.

He's gonna face Sun King in an allowance/optional claimer (both obviously allowance conditions) on Thursday.

A poor performance here would be devastating but maybe he'd rather hang out on the beach with a margarita than race. If he still wants to run and does poorly here, it's either owner or trainer, not horse. Of course maybe he thinks since he only ever seems to do 5 furlong breezes, that after 5 furlongs he gets to stop running. Wouldn't that be a logical conclusion if you were a horse?

No offense to Funny Cide, but I'm pretty sure he's gonna get his butt whupped by Sun King, if not a number of the others in the field. He doesn't seem to be the same horse anymore. Not that I'd complain if he proved me wrong...

BTW, about AP Indy and ridgelings (yeah, what a nice topic, I know  ), did he ever get the undescended one removed? I remember that Roman Ruler did, and I have no idea what happened to Greater Good, who, if I remember right, has no testicles whatsoever...in viewing range. Poor horse has issues...

He was out for awhile because he had a bad back. I don't think he is near being the orse he was. I hope I am wrong. If he does run poorly ,they will probably keep him in some small stakes races ,he can win or some high Allowances.

It's not that he can't run. Check out his works! He doesn't want to compete in races. Hope he shows up on Thursday. If not, he may need some farm time.

Haven't they used the excuse that he doesn't like heat numerous times? They should keep him in New York then?

I don't think keeping him in NY is gonna do any good. It's not where he runs or even the level he runs, it's why he doesn't want to run. I feel, and maybe others disagree, that he has been and could be a G1-caliber horse but with the back problems and most importantly I think the sourness he's come into he doesn't run to that level. I think the talent's there. We've seen glimmers but I don't think the lackluster appearances are due to his inferiority as much as some might say.

People who think he's worth a $150,000 tag I just don't get. He could, properly trained, WIN a race with a purse that size in one fell swoop. He's certainly worth more than that just from a practical viewpoint.

I agree with Heidilady. I just think the horse is sour and probably sore or at least thinks he's sore. I hope he can show some of that old form because I absolutely love him (and not just because of the Slewacide connection  ).
