Question about mating,GSV and others

Postby Ryeno » Mon Feb 06, 2006 8:03 am

Hey crew,

Have found something of interest with my mare when looking at a stallion named Western Trick. He is by Seattle Slew out of Con Game by Buckpasser so that makes him a full to Fast Play and a half to Seeking The Gold.WT has thrown some decent type horses and one of his offspring ,Slewpast will win BC Bred champion 3 year filly in 05.WT only had 3 starts a 2nd and 2 3rds and then something must have gone wrong.

OK so now for the question:
When I run a hypomating with Fast Play (WT Full brother) and Are You Irish these are the numbers I get:
DP=7-3-11-1-0 (20) DI=2.38 CD=0.73 GSV=69.78

I dont have an account here but when i run an add a horse ( i always delete them after) i get the same numbers with Western Trick sans the GSV.Would the GSV be the same with these two full brothers? And if they arent the same how come? When i have run numerous hypos on Are You Irish with farm websites the Fast Play/Are You Irish GSV numbers TOWER over the majority of them with the exception of to Seeking The Gold ( Hypo # with Are You Irish DP = 11-5-13-1-0 (30) DI = 3.00 CD = 0.87; GSV = 72.22)
who comes back as a half brother to Western Trick/Fast Play.So is this telling me that my mare matches up well with the female family of Con Game?Could someone run a hypo between Western Trick and Are You Irish and see what the GSV is?Could the master of the GSV George Smith care to add a comment regarding this?Does this look like a potentially signifigant mating?
Thanks for ALL your help!
Cheers,
Ryeno

Ryeno, I believe GSV for a stallion rises based on the performance of his offspring. Fast Play has far more offspring racing than Western Trick.
So Run for the Roses, as fast as you can.....

Sorry, Ryeno, I missed the other question in your post.

WESTERN TRICK/ARE YOU IRISH DP = 7-3-11-1-0 (22) DI = 2.38 CD = 0.73; GSV = 62.89
So Run for the Roses, as fast as you can.....

Thanks Madelyn,

Its a fairly signifigant drop between two full brothers....hmm

http://www.pedigreequery.com/favorite+minit

take a look at this pedigree. Favorite Minit recently won an allowance race in Louisiana to take his totals probably close to 90K. His GSV is in the low 50's.

I tracked this guy down after I watched the movie Phar Lap. Nea Lap is a full sister and appears way back in this pedigree. I think this guy might even show up somewhere as a stud, but that's just speculation on my part.

GSV is a tool, but not the end all.
