MR. Sekiguchi --$8-mill yearling, to debut
MR. Sekiguchi will be pointed to make his debut on Feb 18th at Santa Anita in 5.5F msw, according to his owner.
I don't know about anybody else, but if I hear the owner say the name of his own horse, it's gonna sound like he's talking about himself in the 3rd person and that's just freaky.
I know oil's getting expensive so let's see how much gas you can put in the tank for $8 million.
In all seriousness, I'm torn between wanting him to do well and expecting a semi-lemon with an 'I told you so' iced tea. The thing is, he's stud farm bound eventually and I'd be thrilled if he actually deserved it physically and talent-wise. Crossing fingers...

Louis,
Anyway you can find out what Baffert wants to do with him? Are they planning preps-then-Derby? Gonna have to make sure they get some graded stakes cash but that may or may not be a problem this year. We'll see if it comes to 20 again.
Anybody remember the rise and fall of Tincin? Wow. 28 starts and the poor guy still hasn't broken his maiden. He'd been eying the Derby but they talked him out of it as I recall (they claimed he came down with a cough--luckiest cough in living memory I'll say). Is he still out there? He's a 1998 horse but a lousy stud prospect at the moment. He's not in the stallion registry so I assume he's still running. I have two words for his owners---Zippy Chippy.

Did you get any more northern breezes in your general direction Louis? Cuz sometimes those breezes sound like little birds whispering additional hints into your ear.

Looks to me like they paid about $7,900,000 to much for him... but it's still early in his career and besides.... it's only $money$.
He showed good speed today going 5 1/2 but was caught the last 75 yards and ran second beaten a 1/2 length. Winning time going 5 1/2 was 1:05 and 3/5s... far from impressive but decent time for ordinary maidens.
