Any input on this stallion?
I am considering breeding a mare by Raykour out of In Essence by In Reality mare to him.

The werk enick gods were baffled by the pairing. Could not even rate the pairing based on Storm Cat Habitat cross. I was a little surprized by that considering a storm cat line has probably been bred to just about everything. That's why you can't put a lot of stock in their system. It is based on repetition and doing what everybody else does.

I like the pairing, Wiseman's Ferry looks substantial, his sales numbers don't look bad and he will start having some runners next year it looks like. The progeny should look good running circles in Texas.

Good Luck.

I'm kind of soft on him, Hennessy being a young sire. Wiseman's Ferry got some good sales pop with his first foals offered at auction which spurred his move to KY from NY and his female family has produced some popular young sires of late. You are going to be breeding on the bubble though and the market can be unkind to sires in his price range who don't get out of the blocks quickly.

Being that this is a young mare and she's unproven and by an iffy sire, I would look more for a proven sire although an unproven sire with the right match is fine (See folks I'm not so rigid). Bringing the Storm Cat into play isn't a bad idea given you say she's pretty correct. I might lean towards a Mr. Prospector line stallion who's proven.

Looks like Cozzene likes some Habitat as well.

The reason I am considering this stallion is that I was offered a foal share on him. Otherwise I am not in the TB business :) I breed hunters! I guess we are going to offer her for sale for about a week or so and if she dosent get sold, will most likely go with this pairing. I am excited about it though!
Thanks for everybodys help!

as a h/j person myself, i've seen Wisemans Ferry in the flesh, and really liked him. if i were looking for a h/j prospect, i'd keep him in mind. however, if you're looking to breed for the track, i'd stick to a more well-known stud, one that is more proven than WF. def keep him in mind, though, and see what his babies sell for, how they do on the track, maybe breed to him a couple years down the road.

I don't see much in that pedigree matchup, I would look around more. They might just be trying to get Wiseman's Ferry's numbers up in terms of mares bred and have not put much thought into it. In Texas, Dixieland Heat matches up with you mare pretty nicely.

I have an unproven mare and most of the 8K sires I inquired on for foal shares weren't interested.

In looking at the stallion register Habitat and Northern Dancer do go well together. So there isnt much history with the storm cat line, I think it is a nice opportunity.

I would follow your sale plan, but wouldnt want to miss another cycle if you plan to take this foal share.

Look at Unbridleds pedigree--I would recommend you find a fappiano or Dr Fager stallion you really like in the area. I think that would give you a much better shot at producing a viable racehorse. In Reality likes to be bred back to Dr Fager, especially when In Reality is the broodmare sire. Good luck.
