I might have tried, but her sire was injury plagued and definitely had soundness issues during his entire racing career. Reviewer fractured a cannon bone as a juvenile, suffered a second cannon bone fracture the next year, then was retired after a third fracture as a four-year-old. I he had not been the son of Bold Ruler; he would have never been bred. Though Bold Ruler produced some brilliant racehorses with regard to speed, he was a bit fragile. I think that Discovery top and bottom of Bold Rulers pedigree allowed him to hang on a bit longer.
Maybe, give her a year off and then breed her to a very sound sire, something like Round Table, maybe Pleasant Colony. I would not breed her back the next season and see how the filly/colt grows and keep an eye on the legs. She may not have made good a broodmare. That is not to detract anything from her racing career.
Funny Cide still truckin'

He just can't win (and pun intended on the expression). I don't get it. What's it gonna take for them to either retire him (that would be sad plus he's really in good shape and not that old) or change trainers. Seems like he's soured but if that were the case, why would he get into it and then give up the ghost farther into the race?

"It was probably too much pressure on him," Tagg said of Funny Cide, the 2.60-to-1 favoirte. "I wish I had a more definitive answer. Maybe he's just not as good as he was."
Total BS, horses don't run those times in the morning and have less talent in the afternoon. It's a lack of killer instinct maybe but he can run fast enough. I've got DRF mail with lots of fast times and he's run bum races with his coat all dappled out. The horse's good enough Barclay, maybe time to look in the mirror.
Let's play a game, who could turn around Funny Cide? What trainer would you send him to? Who's the best with soured horses?

Somewhere along the line the horse lost his heart. Those fast workouts and running up front until the running really starts leads me to believe he still enjoys racing, he just doesn't have that fire and drive to fight for the win anymore. I'd be very surprised, no matter the level, if he ever won again.
Not gonna say a word...just think about his performances since for the last year and a half at least, then the time for his workout...

This may sound off the wall but maybe Funny Cide enjoys the attention he gets when he loses as opposed to when he wins. Would be interesting to see how he would do with a change of scene (trainer).
I hope the owners try that before retiring him. Would be nice to see him go out on a winning note . . . . . .

Agreed. I don't see how they can retire the horse without saying 'sorry Barclay, nothing personal, but we have to try this. We've done everything else'...if they're too loyal to the trainer, they might be causing the horse problems. I'm sure Tagg isn't doing this on purpose but he might be the only factor left to change.

I just have a feeling they have turned Funny Cide into a barn pet and if that is the case FC needs to move on . . . . . .
