Press Camp

Postby petersd » Thu Mar 16, 2006 10:35 am

Well, we run again this Friday (3/17) at Golden Gate in the Erin Go Brach Stakes. 5 SW's, 1 SP and a monster allowance horse battling for $40K. Wish we could have gotten an easier spot, but that's the way it goes.

DRF article is linked below, but I'll give you a hint. We were pretty good going into the Tiburon, but she's REALLY on her toes now...

Wish us luck.

Hi there,

I was expecting you to post today. Read the DRF article last night. And she meets Victorina again . . . . . . . . 2 darn good fillies. I love Victorina and I love your Press Camp too . . . .so will be rooting them both on.

Just got the form today.
After she broke her maiden, she got a Beyer of 93. After she bombed in the Cal Breeders Stakes, it went down to a 79 (not between the race - AFTER the race). It stayed a 79 through the Tiburon, and now, is miraculously an 84.
I'll never trust those numbers again.

See Bob and John's Beyer this weekend for a similar change. (up to a 102 after Sacred Light ran big vs. Brother Derek)

When they make a change like this, it is because they believe they made a mistake and are trying to get it right.

Hi Ill-bred,

I can understand correcting a mistake - but to go back four months to adjust a race (not once, but twice) strikes me as tweaking your model to fit your expected results. If that's what it is, say so - don't pass it off as scientific method.

It's part science, part art/opinion.

I doubt anyone who has tried to make their own speed figures will tell you different. There's no way to ever know if you get a figure exactly right. Just hope they're within a length or two of being correct.

Good luck! I hope she runs a great race for you.

I've seen Beyer rewrite history before. I guess he thinks it makes him look smarter, using the benefit of hindsight like that.

Victorina won and was unbelievably impressive. Take a look at the replay on calracing.com. What determination she showed.

Press Camp missed the start and was dead last...She was more impressive running 2nd off the pace...It looks like Press Camp can go a little longer...she came of the pace and she was 5 wide on the final turn...

I am not taking anything from Victorina...she ran great also...she was blocked in the strecth but got up to win by a nose....

Great race by both horses...

You hate to lose, but we were very pleased with her performance. Blew the start, ran wide the whole way, never saw Victorina in the last strides until it was too late, and we were giving away five pounds.
She's now shown she can stalk- time to see if she stretches out.

Great race by both fillies . . . both had trouble and both proved their mettle.

IMHO this race in my mind was won or lost by who was riding them. Baze is master supreme at nipping a win at the wire. (he did the same in the 8th race)
