So finally, tv coverage

Postby Heidilady » Fri Mar 17, 2006 10:23 pm

It's Jerry Bailey's first gig and airs from 6-7:30pm EST on ESPN on Saturday.

Our competition? World Baseball Classic Semifinal in San Diego. If it runs long (as they always do) we'll get screwed.

So it's the San Felipe, Rebel, Gotham, and Tampa Bay...

Okay, I was really excited to actually see horse racing on, but I have to strongly urge everyone to check out the Cuban baseball team. The catcher is hilarious. If a pitcher starts missing, he will literally stand between home plate and the mound and rip the guy a new one. Well worth the price of admission and their appearance fees are going to Katrina victims.

Looks like the start of racing coverage will be delayed again.

I don't get it. Would it kill them to allow an extra 30 minutes or so for these sports? The ones with no definite ending time? Then tape-delay ours? I don't get why we absolutely have to have it live if they insist on doing this. If you're betting, you don't do it by what's on ESPN...you do online, OTBs etc..You air on tv for the fans and heck we're not that picky.

I hate that I only get 45 minutes of racing coverage sometimes. There's another 2 innings for God's sake. :x

Well. Nice to see that my cable guide is no longer announcing these events under its live sports notices- figure skating, sure, but horse racing, noooooo. Now I get to hear about it when the event's already over :D
Did they ever show any horses, by the way?

Ok folks here are the results:

San Felipe - A.P. Warrior, Point Determined, Bob and John
Rebel - Lawyer Ron, Red Raymond, Steppenwolfer
Gotham - Like Now, Keyed Entry, Sweetnorthernsaint
Tampa Bay - Deputy Clitters, Bluegrass Cat, Winnie Tiggers Too

I was actually kinda happy with the top 3 in the San Felipe and Keyed Entry in the Gotham in terms of fun to watch gutsy performances.

I smell pre-empting. Stupid tennis. I don't get it. We can take pre-taped stuff. The Dubai card was pre-taped due to the hour they raced. Tennis, hockey, and baseball don't have a reliable end time people so stop putting it right before horse racing! One of these days I'm gonna get mad at NASCAR I can smell it. At least they have a finite number of laps.

Unless Federer or Clement finishes this darn thing up in the next 23 minutes, I'm going to have to hurt someone. The maddest I ever got was in 2003 when they pre-empted the entire, and I do mean entire, Derby coverage and ruined our Derby party all for Dopplar reports for an area we didn't even live in! If the weather's that bad there and the power loss was that extensive, here's a clue, they won't be watching t.v. to hear the warning. Plus I'm sure they can look out the window. Idiots.

Ok they're working out a tie break for the 2nd set. There's another set after that! I think this match is tape delay on top of it! There's a live event going on people..cut to it!

It's now started snowing pretty heavily outside and I had no idea it was even likely. Completely random because the weather was clear 5 minutes ago. Hades apparently has frozen over so beware of any bets you made with anybody that had that as a contingency.

We have reached a new low...they are pre-empting for Federer/Clement. Does anyone really believe that Clement is going to win this and if he does, does it really matter when he goes out in the next round. The World Baseball Classic I can understand, NASDAQ 100 Open uh not so much. I'm writing a complaint on this one. :?

Apparently I have to beg to get the results from the Rushaway on ESPN. Pathetic.

And since when is there an ESPN8 or whatever...either Kenny was joking or there's another ESPN channel that I don't have that I didn't know about.

Final note, I think it's hilarious that "that's been the plan all along" to send With A City to the Derby. Oh yeah, I so saw that coming and had him on my radar...not..sorry but unless he shows some indication that he's got a classic race in him prior to Derby, I don't even wanna guess where he'll end up on the big day. Derby fever must be a reaction to some sort of virus since there seems to be no cure--you gotta fight it off yourself if you have a strong constitution, e.g. Harry Aleo.

Alll this makes you so happy that the Breeder's Cup is gonna be on ESPN, now, doesn't it?
One thing I can say about ABC: no goddamn delays!!!!
One thing I can say about ESPN: Goddamn delays every frickin time!!!

Now, whose bright idea was it to put the Breeder's Cup on the crap channel? Hmmm??
At least ABC is proud of having its racing coverage and actually takes time to show it (hell, they're making an entire movie just to promote their Belmont coverage).

D*mmit Federer AGAIN!.... NOW they're pre-empting Wire to Wire!!!! They moved it to 5:00 Tuesday (I had no idea about that but thought oh goody it's on now. That's better than nothing) and then once again tennis...tennis.....that's IT. They apparently weren't satisfied to run over our race coverage, they have to run over the coverage of the race coverage that we missed!!!!!!! Sometimes they even run over it on Wed. morning at the 5:30 am slot---I figured I had that at least but bet you money they nix it even though they're lying to my face and saying they're not. And usually it's due to tennis..

So... is it true that you can only get horse racing channels through a satellite? I'm a cable girl, and I wanna see horse racing, dammit!!!

Ok so first they won't actually show races due to baseball, tennis, etc but today they for some bizarre reason put the Florida Derby on USA Network with Gary Stevens (and Tom Hammond if memory serves) and the usual Kenny and Co. doing the Winstar Derby, Oaks on ESPN...at the same time. See now I gotta juggle coverage of these two cable channels when the Florida Derby outta be a network event and I didn't realize it in time to tape anything.

Embarrassment of riches or just of poor programming skills?

But about today's races, Barbaro's just a cool horse. Whatever happens in the Derby, etc. I find him highly enjoyable and good job today.
