From 40k claimer to 550k for a 25% share. Equirace bought this horse privatley for 150k back in January. Is 1.1 million for 50% of this horse a bargain or is it overpriced?

550k for a 25% share of With a City

Umm. Considering 90% of War Emblem was sold for $950K(?) after he had already won the Illinois Derby and was pointed to the KY Derby (which carried a $1 million bonus if he won both, and he'd completed half of the task) I think $1.1mil for half of With a City is an awful lot. There is no bonus I know of for winning the Lane's End at Turfway and the KY Derby
... on the other hand the KY Derby purse is $2mil this year instead of $1mil. But the winner's share is only $1.2 mil less trainer and jockey, so $1.1mil for HALF the horse doesn't look like much of an investment.
So Run for the Roses, as fast as you can.....

I think they changed the pricing on him. I guess nobody bit at 550k for 25%ownership(1 share).
Now he is priced at 17 shares @ 50k per. That gets you 2.5% ownership per share. The numbers work out to 850k for 42%.

Strangely enough, if they stopped with the piecemeal stuff which ordinarily would inflate a horse's price, they probably could get $2 million or darn close. It's Derby Fever, he's guaranteed a berth, there's no overwhelming favorite and War Emblem showed everyone this can be done. Some half a billionaire can go out and try to buy history. But they won't want to share the podium with 20 others.
Hi All,
Wish me luck!
I just found the last two 1% owners packages to With A City in a bin at Wal-Mart (original sealed packages!) and bought them each for only $29.95. I did have to prepay a year's expenses of $1000 per package ($2,000 total) though.
KY Derby here we come!

Are you sure you weren't at K-Mart? Wal-mart generally has more upscale products.
Actually I was gonna guess Goodwill.
LOL won't we all just die if he actually won? I think I'd be laughing so hard at the joke that I played on myself for putting him back on the shelf and not in my shopping cart. Same with a few others. Hey if any of you folks are betting on the race, couldn't hurt to put $2 on him to win or something instead of buying a 20 oz Coke and a candy bar with it just to be able to say you had him when no one else did. Hey obesity's a problem--put the Coke down and waste it on a "hopeless" Derby contender..you know just in case. Unless of course you're buying one of those really expensive mint juleps and you can't really spare it.
