Today's Courier-Journal (Louisville) reported that 40% of the horses RNA'd, including the high sale bid of $2,395,000.

Another way to look at that statistic: only 39% of the horses in the catalogue actually sold. The rest were Outs and RNAs.

As for the Lemon Drop Kid colt, buyers at 2YO sales are very specific about what they want and obviously he wasn't it. I didn't watch his work, only saw him standing in the ring where he looked like a perfectly decent horse. Things that might have turned buyers off (purely conjecture in this horse's case because I don't know anything about him) include: a slow work, a poor way of moving, bad x-rays, crooked legs, or the fact that Lemon Drop Kid is pretty cold.

LOL! I've always loved Lemon Drop Kid and I'm still waiting for him to revive. I know I'm probably the only one but I refuse to give up hope just yet.

Its tough trying to sell a horse out of a "cold" sire.

Not necessarily. Granted LDK and Eavesdropper are both by Kingmambo, but their dams, though closely related, have very different production records.

Weekend Surprise has been a wonderful producer of sires with A.P. Indy, Summer Squall, Honor Grades, and Tiger Ridge already to her credit. Her half-sister Charming Lassie lags way behind in that department.

I wouldn't count out Eavesdropper yet by a longshot. (In the interest of full disclosure, I own a "niece" of his so I'm pretty favorably disposed in his direction. )
