Missing In Action

Postby BJ » Mon Apr 24, 2006 12:07 pm

Grey Filly named LATIN WONDER.

Listed as having last worked on March 12, 2006.
Trained by Jerry Hollendorfer.

Listed by Jockey Club as "DEATH REPORT COMPLETE".

Anyone know the story on this one? I watched this filly grow and go into the track.

Was this a track breakdown or another track discard?

I'm not sure what happened to her, BJ. I hope someone can help you.

I do have a querstion for you: where did you locate that information, and how could I check to see if some of my "missing" favorites have death reports?

Hi BJ,

Have sent an email . . . . .to check for you. Was there a date of any kind on the "Death" notice??

Hi LT,

hmmmmm . . . . . . . . . . . That's not Hollywood . . . it's Golden Gate. And BJ said her last work was March 12, '06 which is after this race at GG.

BJ,

Haven't heard back yet. . . . . . . . . . .

I don't know if you heard this but Jerry had to put down one of his favorites, 8yo gelding Halo Cat on April 9th because of colitis. Halo Cat started his career @CD in 2000 and Jerry has had him since 2002 and HC had $493,480 in earnings. It was always a pleasure watching HC race as he had a huge stride . . . I know I will miss him very much . . . . and as you know I really do love the old guys.

So if Latin Wonder is gone it most probably was a workout accident or illness. If Hollendorfer "discards" a horse it would be in the claiming box.

No. There never is. Nor, are they required to say "how" they died. :x

She's a filly that used to work with my filly. I have her in my paid Equineline portfolio, so the dates of races and works are correct. I only noticed she had been reported as "died", when she left my "horses in training" section and ended up in the "other" section. I guess "other", means dead. :( :x

However, a horse being reported as "dead" to the JC, can unfortunately, in reality, end up in the killpen on the way to slaughter.

If there is a chance she is in some feedlot in Northern California and there is a chance to still save her...
 :?: :?:

So, I'm wondering if anyone can verify if she had to be euthanized on the track...or took the meat truck to her destiny. Because, IF she is still out there in a feedlot somewhere, she has a way to be rescued. ME!

Does anyone on this board frequent or know of feedlots and rescues in the Northern Californa area?

Thanks!
BJ

I don't believe there are any feedlots or killer auctions in the immediate area here in Nor Cal.

One rescue you might try contacting is Glen Ellen Vocational Academy (GEVA).

She might have some contacts in the stable area that could tell you more about the filly.

BJ, try this guy. He runs a TB rescue in NorCal. He gets horses from some killer buyers who call him when they get one. It's a long shot as he doesn't really know about all of the horses that go on the truck, only the ones he gets called on, but worth a try.

Jerry Hollendorfer NEVER has sent a horse to the killers and never will. He once cancelled a real estate purchase because he found out the other party was involved in the killer industry.

You can go to drf.com and buy a life time PP. See if Jerry had the horse in its last race and then if you really want to know, call the track and ask for his barn phone number. His wife Janet will answer when you call and can give you any info.

Here's two numbers for Jerry Hollendorfer from the Golden Gate condition book: (510)526-4104 ; (650)571-6837

The (650) area code is Bay Meadows, so you'd want to try the (510) one now since they're all at Golden Gate.

Thank you Indychase. I did send an email. Asked her to keep an eye out.
