Years of death

Postby arganaut » Fri Apr 28, 2006 6:12 am

Hi Folks,

I am researching an article for Racetrack magazine which has taken me all over the cyberspace world and I have only 48 hrs to complete it.

A couple of facts I need help with please are, years of death for the following stallions -

YALLAH NATIVE USA (1973) -
SOVEREIGN PATH GB (1956) -

Any help would be greatly appreciated and will be happy to forward a free copy of the magazine.

Best Wishes.

I found this from an Australian website listing of Stallions by Sireline, showing # of SW and Best Progeny:

Yallah Native (USA) 1973
4 Regal Native, Spritely Native, Bongo Rhythm, Native Neptune
Yallah Prince (AUS) 1981
5 Babu's Boy, Pimpala Prince, Roseville, Yallah's Success, Yallah Lad

You might give the following Australian Stud Farm a call as they stood/are standing his son, Yallah Prince, and may have stood Yallah Native before him or at least have knowledge of when he died.

=Yallah Prince (Aus), 98, Yallah Native—=Shardonna (Aus), by =Wilkes (Fr). Noralla, MS 394 Upper Freestone Road, Gladfield via Warwick, QLD Australia, 4370. Phone: (07) 4666 1156

Then I found this dated 2002:

PROLIFIC sire Yallah Prince has died at the age of twenty at his owner Ken Delforce’s Kendel Park Stud at Willow Tree near Quirindi in north-west NSW.

The son of the Northern Dancer sire Yallah Native has sired more than 500 winners, including notable performers Princely, Babu’s Boy, Pimpala Prince, Yallah Lad and Yallah King.

Yallah Native's date of death is not noted on the Stud Book site however, he served one mare in 1995 who happened to miss.

He didn't serve in 1994 and only covered a very small book in 1993.

Hope this helps.

Years of death

Postby arganaut » Fri Apr 28, 2006 8:03 pm

Hi Folks,

Thanks very much for all your unexpected replies. Please email me your addresses so I can send you all a complimentary copy of the next issue.

Thanks to the Weatherbys Stud Book who were able to find out that Sovereign Path died in 1977 due to heart failure.

In total, I now have 14 to go (started with about 300 a few weeks ago) by Monday night (Sydney time) and in the off chance anyone can help, here is the final list -

TAIPAN 1963-
BRAVE LAD 1970-
YALLAH NATIVE 1973-
MAYO'S SON 1976-
NINISKI 1976-
MONTEVERDI 1977-
VOODOO RHYTHM 1977-
ROYAL TROUBADOR 1981-
GUNS OF NAVARONE 1980-
LUCKY RING 1982-
NICCOLO POLO 1983-
LAST TYCOON 1983-
NAVAJO BIRD 1984-
SLAVIC 1987-

Some of the more recent ones may be active in some part of the world so again if anyone can help, greatly appeciated.

Same applies, a free copy of Racetrack magazine to be sent where ever you are in the world.

Many thanks to all for your time.

Best Wishes,

Andrew

Ooops.

I didn't realise that Sovereign Path was also over here.

Again, no date of death from the Stud Book but he served three mares in 1975 for three live foals. Prior to that he served one mare in 1971 for a live foal.

I'm not sure if this information is totally accurate as I have noticed some large gaps in their website records when looking back further than the early 1980s.

I found this fairly recent bit (compiled excerptf from an article by Susan Archer) on SLAVIC at the following site -

New Zealand Group One winners reviewBy Susan Archer 02 Apr 2006

Private breeders, owner-breeders, buyers with modest budgets, studs standing out-of-favour stallions and owners of mares from old Australasian families can all take heart from New Zealand's Group One race results to date this season.

Missing in action

Five horses on the list are by sires no longer standing in New Zealand: Almutawakel, Bahhare, Cape Cross, Green Perfume and Slavic.

Green Perfume and Slavic prove the adage that even a poor sire will leave at least one really good horse, in their cases BALDESSARINI and KRISTOV. On the whole, Green Perfume had better opportunities at Chequers Stud, leaving stakes performers to mares by Vice Regal, Danehill, Deputy Governor and Western Symphony, and an overall 2.1% SW/foals. Slavic, who stood here at Wedgewood Stud and Glenmorgan Farm, is the sire of four New Zealand-bred stakeswinners, 1.9% of his foals.

MORE ON SLAVIC: At the Studs list notes about Wedgewood Stud (same site as above) - it would appear that Slavic is either sold on or pensioned as he is not noted as a "Dead Stallion" but rather as "Past Stallions" -

History: Stud is now closed.

Past Stallions
SLAVIC (USA) B. H. 1987

Dead Stallions
BRITISH BANKER (CAN) B. H. 1988

Below is this listings' codes re stallion's status:

Latest Database Update: 26 April 2006

Welcome to the NZTBA Stud & Stallion Database, providing easy access to key information and news about New Zealand thoroughbred stallions, studs and private breeders.

Stallions can be searched by Stallion Name, Sire, Region and Stud Fee Range.
The status of each stallion is indicated as Current, Past (= retired, exported or no longer shuttling to New Zealand) or Dead.

AND THEN THIS ABOUT KRISTOV from the Arrowfields Stud site -

KRISTOV WINS G1 STARCRAFT NZ STAKES
13/03/2006

STARCRAFT

Story By Breeding & Racing

In New Zealand, ultra-consistent 6YO gelding KRISTOV (Slavic-Santa Barbra, by Piperhill) added another Group 1 triumph to his record by leading all-the-way to record a 1 ¼ lengths victory in the NZ$150,000 weight-for-age Gr1 Starcraft Stakes (2000m) at Ellerslie.

Kristov, ridden by Hayden Tinsley for trainer Phillip Stevens, defeated Group 1 winning 4YO gelding Hurrah (Bahhare-Shock Attack, by Inviting) and this season's star 3YO filly Shikoba (Chief Bearhart-Summary, by Tierce).

Kristov, passed-in for NZ$23,000 as a yearling at the 2001 NZ Bloodstock Summer Sale, now has 3 wins and a Group 1 runner-up from his last 4 starts; and overall took his record to 14 wins (also including the Gr1 Waikato Draught Sprint over 1400m on February 11 & Gr3 Manawatu Higgins Challenge Stakes over 1400m in December) and 26 placings (including last year's Gr1 Auckland Easter Handicap over 1600m and last start in the Gr1 Otaki-Maori over 1600m on February 25) in 43 starts for NZ$433,140 earnings.

And this on Last Tycoon"

The first of Northern Dancer's two top-class sons out of the Buckpasser mare Sex Appeal, Try My Best, was the best two-year-old in England and Ireland in 1977 but did not train on at three. Markedly back at the knee, he was an inconsistent stallion who got one outstanding son in Last Tycoon (Ire).

Champion sprinter in Europe and winner of the Breeders' Cup Mile (G1) in 1986, Last Tycoon led something of a checkered career as a stallion, standing periodically in Ireland, Australia, Japan, and New Zealand. Leading sire in Australia in 1994, Last Tycoon has not yet secured his male line.

Fabulous Dancer (Last of the Line, by The Axe II) never reached the top of the tree as a racehorse but led the French sire list in 1992. His fillies were rather better than his colts. Northern Baby (Two Rings, by Round Table) was a better racehorse, winning the 1979 Champion Stakes (Eng-G1), and was good but not great at stud. Neither line is likely to survive.

arganaut,

Read through this post: http://www.pedigreequery.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=9446
