BARBARO PULLED UP
Looked like sesamoids. He couldn't even put weight on right hind.

I know... it's just awful... first race that I've watched where I've bawled my eyes out. So sad. I was really rooting for him & feel terrible for everyone involved. I hope whatever his injury, that he doesn't have to be put down...

He pulverized that ankle. They're going to lose him.
I was having Charismatic flashbacks after the Derby, I just wasn't feeling good about this horse ... I knew they should have skipped the race.
I think I'm going to be sick.

Larry Bramlage (sp?) said just guessing he'd figure the right hind ankle, it's career ending in all likelihood, and there's a good chance the horse can be saved but he won't know til the x-rays come in and he sees the soft-tissue.
Barbaro seems awful calm considering. If it's up to his temperament for recovery, he'll get through it I think. If it's too bad regardless of how good a patient he is, that's the only thing I think that would be the problem.

That was devastating to watch. When he broke through the starting gate before the race started, I just felt sick to my stomach. Couldn't believe it.
When they loaded him back in, I thought: Be an Afleet Alex.
Just wasn't meant to be. What a terrible turn of events.
I hope they can save him. He'll make a great stud.

I'm guessing it wasn't a compound injury? Or Bramlage would have said? If not then he has a chance if he didn't destroy too much of the blood supply, they can fuse his ankle. This just sucks, really sucks. This is why I don't get attached to horses any more. The minute I do, this happens. It's just devastating, even worse because this guy looked like he was going to be something super special.

This is so not good.
Actually I've seen a few stallions with fused ankles and they moved just fine (well a llittle gimpy of course) at a n extended trot and cantered out in the paddock. I'm guessing it just depends on the horse.
