Quiet American has gotten some really good horses in recent years from the broodmare sire position. Last years HOY, Saint Liam and this years Preakness winner, Bernardini place Quiet American on the top of the broodmare sire list.
Could it be that the 3X2 inbreeding to Dr. Fager is very important in creating this situation? Could it also be that the Rf factor of having Cequillo top and bottom was responsible to some degree as well?
Usually inbreeding 3X2 is just too close up in a pedigree and most successful stallions do not have such close up inbreeding.
Another point to ponder: Dr. Fager, himself, does not have a single line to Phalaris in his entire pedigree. Maybe that pedigree that Dr. Fager carries is somewhat responsible for the success of Quiet American as a broodmare sire.
Another point to think about: Quiet American could be carrying War Admirals X chromosome and large heart trait because Dr. Fager himself probably carried War Admirals X chromosome and got it from his dam, Aspidistra who is in the X passing chain to War Admiral by way of Better Self. Dr. Fager gave that super X to his daughter, Demure, and she in turn could have given it to her son, Quiet American.
All in all, Quiet American is the closest living relative of the great Dr. Fager, one of the fastest horses this country has ever known. It is fitting that Quiet American is transmitting some of Fagers superior blood to modern day champions.

Quiet American
All good points, Stancaris. If you are an advocate of X-Factor, you have to be a fan of Quiet American. I'm sure you have looked at his son, Real Quiet, who has come the closest to a Triple Crown since Affirmed, losing by a nose to Victory Gallop, his cousin by way of Dr. Fager's daughter and Mr. P, Fappiano, which many have attributed to pilot error. Real Quiet is the posterboy for X-Factor with 5 consecutive double copy mares on the dam's side to go along with all the double copies on the top. He is unfortunately not a spectacular looking horse and perhaps did not get very good mares when he started and has been sent to Pennsylvania and is standing for a mere 6.5k and will be even more unlikely to get good mares there. He also gets an additional shot of Rough and Tumble, Dr. Fager's sire, on the dam's side.
Actually, Dr. Fager when inbred has only produced 8 horses who have won at least 1 G3 race and only 2 of those won G1 races. Not sure how many times it was attempted though.
For another fine example of X-Factor, check out this year's Derby and Belmont 2nd place finisher, Bluegrass Cat.

Is there any place that actual measured heart scores can be found?
Also is there any proof that either A.P. Indy, or Storm Cat have the Secretariat/Princequillo large heart? Not that I'm doubting that this is a factor in TB breeding, and in fact explains some of the quirks, I'd just like something that can be measured while the horse is still alive.
Just a side note the War Admiral X that Dr. Fager carries come from Domino, a very fast horse himself, who died far to early.

Stancaris: Both Cequillo (Prince Rose) sire line and Dr. Fager
(Questionnaire) sire line are an outcross for the (Phalaris) sire line.
Thats why Quiet American has had success as a BMS, as their are few BMS that provide an outcross to the (Phalaris) sire line.
With many crosses of Phalaris to be found in our modern day TB, the NP mares and stallions offer a solution to the soundness problems that have surfaced in todays TB.

When you breakdown the sire lines in QA 5 generation pedigree, you will find 13 crosses of NP and 3 crosses of PH.
QA was bred by Tartan Farms a leading breeder of TB. Tartan Farms didnt have those 10-12 crosses of Phalaris in their matings as we a seeing today.
