Update on Sailor's Wave
I finally was able to get ahold of Sailor's Wave's trainer last night. He had to move her to the owner's farm in southern MA to make room for a new claim. Mare is safe for now but MUST MOVE ASAP.
The trainer said he'd gotten a lot of calls from long-distance buyers unwilling or unable to pay for shipping. Please, please only call about this mare if you can cover shipping costs to your location. Thank you.
Again, the trainer's phone # is 774-232-3485.

Hang on!! If she is at the OWNERS farm then whats the problem? Or is this another fair-weather owner that loves to smile for the camera but walks away when the going gets tough? I will donate to the mares cause if she finds a safe haven. Funnily enough I was at the quarter-pole watching the races last week here in Fort Erie when a trainer was leading a beaten mare back after a race and asked if I had an empty stall and GAVE me the 5yr old mare to cool out and keep! I will keep you posted as she is absolutely beautiful, sound and in need of another approach, which is what I will give to her. I never take something for nothing so gave the man a check two days later. Call it good Karma or something similar.
Wilf, you make a good point, but I have no idea what the owner of this mare is like. I just know he wants to cut his losses and move her as soon as he can. That's not to say he'd send her to slaughter...that was never said...all we were told is that she's got to go.
Sad to say, after 3+ years of volunteering with CANTER, I am just very relieved that she is owned by someone willing to give her some time to try to find a private buyer rather than just dumping her off with the meat man the second she came up sore. He's already better than a lot of other owners through that regard alone.

You all at NE CANTER do a great job. Pat yourselves on the back. Three of the horses we have here came through you. My daughter has two of them in event training right now. To be honest, I've got the pasture space and she'd be a nice broodie, but with fuel costs like there are, I just can't justify another trip north of M-D line. Good luck with her.

Thanks so much, Shammy! And I know you personally do a lot to help horses in need...so thank you for that, too.
Which CANTER NE "alums" do you have? Feel free to PM if you'd prefer. It's always so nice to hear the success stories.
I will see Sailor's Wave's trainer at Suffolk tomorrow so I'll post here if there are any updates.

Sailor's Wave sure is bred nicely to match up with Rocking Trick. Too bad she is so far away and I have soo many mares right now. See his half sister Randy Cat for a clue about Fappiano with his family......
I certainly hope she finds a home... and I would work a SWEET deal with whoever gets her to get her into Rocking Trick's '07 book.

So Run for the Roses, as fast as you can.....

REBOUND, Chance Spender, and Try My Tune all came from the same owner. Chance Spender and Try My Tune are the two that my daughter trains and shows. She has another gelding, Early Start, who came through a regional rescue organization. He had foundered at Charles Town due to injury. It took me two years to get him moving. Now, even with his club foot, he is a real "looker" in the dressage ring. Chance Spender sired a very lovely filly this year out of Wild Skywalker. Both he and "Tune" have taken to eventing. REBOUND is just "standing." We're hoping for a couple "scores" in Spring 2007. We also have three mares that came via Mid-Atlantic CANTER. Some very good horses come through the rescue ranks. Keep up the good work. Thanks for asking.
