So far he's sired 46 foals in 4 seasons at stud. His handlers in Japan are at wit's end to get him to mate with a mare and they are talking to farms back in the states to see if they can get him to do his duty. They didn't say if it was lack of libido. I know they would present to him a bunch of mares and allowed him to pick the one he liked most. Seems like he doesn't like to breed at all. Could it be hormonal or something psychological? I've heard of shy breeders, but this one takes the cake.

If you had such a stallion, what would you do with him? Would pasture breeding suit him or have they tried that?

They are not offering specifics, as in does he even get out his sword? What worked for that one year that produced 40 foals?

If I had him, I might turn him out with a little band of mares for the summer/fall. Preferably old hussies that knew what to teach him.

I knew a man in South Carolina that had a stud that would not tease or have anything to do with a mare if a handler had him. They had to pasture breed everything. He just was funny turned like that. When in a stall he never would open his mouth to talk even if a mare were in front of his stall. I saw him out on pasture with his herd of mares and he herded them like a little cutting horse. Never talked much to them then either.

Anybody know how much his stud fee is? What a grand disappointment. I truly think it's something mental with him. And that's a shame.

Actually I think the year they let him pick his own was his most fruitful year. I remember they were kind of upset because he chose the "cheap" mares . . . . . . . .

from what I remember of working with a son of Storm Cat is that he wouldn't mate with white or close to white mares.. what a bitch that was. They blanketed them in the breeding shed,, but heknew..

Also knew of a stud they put out to pasture with a mare in FLAMING heat, and he wouldn't breed her at all.. Like this mare was pissing on his hay in such roaring heat, and he just walked away.. God wonders how he ended up sireing what he did!!
