Sire search

Postby Blue feather » Sat Aug 12, 2006 6:47 am

I'm interested in opinions for selecting a sire for my mare. She's a Housebuster mare out of Beau Gris. Her name is My Yellow Diamond. She's a half to two graded stakes winners and one graded placed. My Farm is in PA so sire location and the fact that I'm breeding to race are considerations. I'm considering the Fappiano line namely Real Quiet(PA) or Unbridled Jet(MD). I'm also looking into introducing the Shy Dancer line which I understand is an excellant cross with the Grey Dawn line. K O Punch(KY) or Read the Footnotes(NY) seem to be interesting choices.
Some other factors are that she's a 12 yr old big gray and fairly correct. She's had two babys to race and two winners notably Masa who won her debut by five in the UK and later ran in a Gll race although she ran poorly. She was the first winner out of Dixie Union.

Just a quick observation or two: your mare traces to Broodmare of the Year KERALA. Inbreeding to her, through Damascus, is a very attractive proposition. Your mare's pedigree is very turf oriented (Housebuster has proven an effective grass sire), so if your aim is to race, I would stick with stallions which reinforce the turf angle. Your mare sold as a yearling for $100,000, but only started six times with one win; soundness might have been an issue for her. I'd sure plug that into the equation when you make a decision.
