Mating advice on these mares?

Postby clh » Wed Oct 25, 2006 6:53 pm

Hi folks - any suggestions on who I should send these mares to this year? We currently breed to sell (hoping someone else will race them). I'll give you as much info as I can on them; we've usually tried first or second crop sires but would not be opposed to something more established if the price was right. Would like to keep under $20K for each if possible:

Allou by Seattle Slew out of Fun Crowd (currently in foal to Toccet) and had a Birdstone colt this year.

Anna K. by Boston Harbor out of On The Tree Top (currently in foal to Medallist) and had a Birdstone colt this year.

Laird's Honor by Honor Grades out of Laird's Cup (currently in foal to Even the Score) and had a Scrimshaw colt this year.

McCaskill by Copelan out of Bally Bis (IRE) (currently is open - was bred to Value Plus but did not get in foal) - she has a Tapit filly.

Any thoughts and suggestions will be greatly appreciated. Am feeling like I'm working behind schedule this year for some reason.

Your thoughts on their pedigrees would be welcome as well. Hit me with your best shot - I can take it (I cry very quietly)!

Many thanks!

Several Horses you may consider

With Allou I would consider

Five Star Day line breeding Populi 3x4
Lion Hearted line breeding on Relaxing 3x4

With Anna K. I would consider
Include line breeding Too Bald 4x5 and Hidden Talent 5x5x6

With Laird's Honor I would consider
Stephen Got Even line breeding Weekend Surprise 3x3 and My Charmer 4x4

With McCaskill I would consider
Eurosilver, Buddha, Songandaprayer,St. Averil, or Yes It's True.

Thanks Keith, I'll look at those stallions. Interesting enough, McCaskill had a Yes It's True colt last year and I believe has had another Yes It's True before that. She came from Florida so they bred her alot to Dance Master as well. Thanks again!

Maybe they aren't worth breeding :)

McCaskill might actually be better suited by his sire, Is It True. For Laird's Honor.. Flatter provides some interesting things. 3x3 Weekend Surprise and 4x4 My Charmer. The challenge for Laird's Honor is her pedigree, it is a bit closed. McCaskill seems to need some lines that aren't easily found. That's probably why you haven't got a flurry of responses. I worked with these mares for nearly two hours this morning and just kept coming up empty.

McCaskill--maybe Seattle Fitz? Seattle Slew over Copelan led to Purge (Gr-1) and Rulers Court (Gr-2). Plus the older lines on her dam's side (especially Fair Trial) may work with his argentine blood.
