Harborage..just wondering opinions

Postby sstacy19 » Sun Nov 05, 2006 4:59 pm

Hi all,
I am wondering what the groups thoughts are about this horse as a stallion. (Monarchos out of Get Lucky) He will be standing in lousiana in 2007..pulled suspensory in a G3 a few weeks ago..anyway
Will he be a stallion worth breeding to? He has an incredibly weak sire (in my opinion), yes he does have a great female family but will that be enough to pull him along?
Thoughts on him good and bad??
Thanks

Do you have a specific mare in mind or are you looking to breed to sell or race? What price is Harborage being stood for or has this been decided?

I'm not really qualified to offer an opinion on this, but please know that I looked Harborage up and wow, what a female family. Monarchos really 'married up' in this case!

Get Lucky is a MSW and stakes winning producer, is the 2nd dam of Bluegrass Cat, and another offspring sold for 1.25 million in 2005. These are just the highlights I got from the database. She also has a decent race record herself and it looks like her produce makes multiple starts and have earnings.

Monarchos doesn't seem to be getting a whole lot of respect on this board but there is a lot of interest in female family, so I am a little surprised that no one has offered an opinion. Of course, it has been a busy week! Hopefully those that are knowledgable will respond.

There is a lot of disrespect for Monarchos. I've been researching stallions, and he's actually on my final list. He's BARELY on it, but he's on it.

He qualified for his covering sire prices actually...

In 2006:
10 offered, 9 sold. Only one sold for less than the stud fee.

This puts him 8th on my list of stallion sorted by that factor.

He only has 2 crops of racing age. I think it's completely possible that the statistics have yet to correct, thus causing the 21% winners/foals of RA.

As far as earnings per start, he's above Royal Academy, Skip Away, Honour and Glory, and Marquetry.

For the price, I think we have a client's mare that will fit him perfectly.

As far as a son of his standing at stud... I would wait until Monarchos' statistics even out and you figure out what kind of stud he's going to be before breeding to his son.

I think that Monarchos as a "Sire Of Sires" is VERY VERY scary.

He does have a nice female family, but Monarchos is not who I would have bred his dam to.

I wouldn't go out of my way to send a mare to him.
but that is just my opinion
