Cat Dreams

Postby Pav » Wed Dec 20, 2006 12:51 am

Does anyone have any thoughts on the relatively new CA stallion Cat Dreams as a sire? I am intrigued about the combination of his bloodlines and his unreached potential as a racehorse, particularly at a relatively cheap fee. However, I haven't been too impressed with the quality of broodmares that have been bred to him and the corresponding sales results. Has anyone seen him person? Any thoughts on his conformation?

Also, I am looking to pick up my first broodmare or two at one of the upcoming mixed sales (either Keeneland or Barretts) and was wondering if anyone had any suggestions on family lines that would cross well with Cat Dreams for a future mating.

Thanks in advance!

There are two mares in foal to Cat Dreams in next month's Barretts sale, one due in March and one due in early May. If you're interested in getting a foal by him, buying one of them might be the most cost-effective way. No stud fee, no fretting about getting the mare in foal, no vet or board bills. A very quick turnaround and risk is substantially lowered. If you like the foal, you could go back to him. I'm wary of him as he should've held up for more races than he did.

Pav, if you are convinced breeding to a stallion who made only one start is a wise proposition, the best advice in choosing a mare is to find one with ironcast legs, proven soundness at the track, and a pedigree which denotes durability. Synthetic tracks may reduce breakdowns, but they won't make brittle limbs strong.
