Why has he not been a success as a stallion ?

I believe they priced him too high at 6k. He initially got 55 mares in 2002 and from what I heard they were not giving any consideration. From there on out his numbers bred were 2003 - 40 mares (80% in foal), 2004 - 39 mares (82%) in foal, 2005 - 20 mares. In 2006 I think they began seeing the decline coupled with the fact his first crop had only 9 starters with 4 winners and 82K in earnings, so it was clear that he was not going to be the precocious type sire. His stud fee was dropped to 3k (2005 advertised fee in BH was 6K) but the damage had been done and he only got 8 mares in 2006.
He is only a 2nd crop sire, currently ranked 38th Nationally with 35 starters, 18 winners, and 468K in earnings. I would not count him out at this point as a lot of stallions begin with a less than auspicious beginnings. Aptitude had 35 starters in his first crop with 11 winners and earnings of 361K, but is currently is the #1 2nd crop sire with 3.2 million in earnings.
To be clear, I'm not saying Dixie Dot Com is an "Aptitude" but I would not count a sire out without first giving them a chance to prove otherwise and two crops are insufficient in this case. Furthermore I think he will make a good turf sire in a regional market. Just my 2 cents.

Dixie Dot Com had quite a few winners this year . . . . . . . have always loved this one and I think will prove to be a very good regional stallion.

I would have to say the farm didn't do a very good job of promoting him. Early in 2006, I called and asked about him and some other stallions at the farm. The gal all but tried to talk me off of him, saying he was pretty much only bred to the owner's mares.
