Dream on! Watch this stretch run and thank your maker that it happened in your lifetime - only one horse ever born could have won this race with 137 pounds!

Well, Secretariat's performance was a run, whereas Forego's performance was a race. It's kind of apples and oranges.
I think, from reading some of the literature, that Secretariat's run that day had a really profound effect on many who witnessed it, partly because it was so dominating, and partly because it seemed so effortless. Once the other horses were beaten, he just kept running to a world record.

You had the feeling that he could go around one more time just for fun.

A $50,000 claimer will equally dominate three $5,000 claimers.
If you want to talk about "a race against the clock," yes, it was awesome. But he beat nobody...and that tarnishes the memory of it.
I find it fascinating that to prove your "OPINION" you fall back on degrading the horses. . . . . .Do you really think that is going to sway anyone else's opinion . . . . . .NOT.
I'm glad your horse hero is Forego.

After the Preakness, Sham was a tired horse. His works were gapped and slower than usual. Meanwhile, Secretariat's works actually got faster leading up to the Belmont Stakes.
Be real, Tairaterces....Twice a Prince was second - he won 3 races in his career and never won a stake. He wasn't totally outlassed by Secretariat?
Does that prove my point?

Rockeby, might I remind you that Big Red blew by Forego like he was standing still in the Derby. Forego couldn't warm up Secretariat. He was a great horse but not close in ability. Secretariat's Belmont was a speed exhibition unequaled. You could have entered anyone that day in June and there would be no change in outcome-only a faster time.

Forego bumped the rail on the far turn in the Derby...not that he was going to win, but he might have been closer.
It's too bad that Secretariat and Forego never faced eachother as 4 year olds. I think at equal weight at 1 1/4 mile, I would have taken Forego over Secretariat in the fall of 1974.
I think what people forget about Secretariat's era is how fast racetracks were then. Track records fell all over the place from 1973 - 1975.

Secretariat raced 8 times after the KD . . . . . . . looks like Forego's connections were running scared the other way . . . . . I think that POINT is obvious.
