New stallions in Pennsylvannia

Postby bfinellc » Mon Sep 22, 2008 2:30 pm

Has anyone heard of any new stallions coming to Pennsylvannia for 2009 besides Medallist? Rumors are that Walmac might be sending someone new to Regal Heir.......

Medallist is definitely coming to Pennsylvania for the 2009 season. That was part of the agreement when Three Chimneys sent him to Northview, that he would eventually stand in Pa. Trouble is that Northview isn't quite finished with their Pa. farm, so when exactly he will come is uncertain. The rumors about Walmac sending another stallion to Regal Heir are true, but they don't know who it is yet.

Haven't heard any other news about new Pa. stallions, but there will be some, that's for sure.

I read somewhere recently that Northview is actively searching for three more stallions for their PA division. If I can find the link, I'll post it.

Walmac Farm just sent me an e-mail stating that they are also going to stand One Great Cat (Storm Cat-Blissful-Mr. Prospector) in Pennsylvania. One Great Cat was a winner of 2 of 9 races in Europe for trainer Aidan O'Brien, all of which were ran on the turf. His graded efforts included two third place finishes; a 7th out of 7; and an 18th out of 19.

One Great cat is a 2005 colt. Why is he going to stud at this early age??

Looks like the dam of One Great Cat is a full sister to Fusaichi Pegasus.

Might be worth a shot

Here is what is listed in the 9/30 issue of the Thoroughbred Daily News:

FuPeg Relation One Great Cat to Walmac:
Multiple Group 2 performer One Great Cat (Storm
Cat--Blissful, by Mr. Prospector), who was produced by
a full-sister to Kentucky Derby hero Fusaichi Pegasus,
will enter stud in 2009 at Walmac Pennsylvania at
Regal Heir Farm, it was announced yesterday. The
three-year-old colt will stand for $5,000 live foal
($4,500 for Pennsylvania-foaling mares). Trained in
Ireland by Aidan O=Brien for Michael Tabor and Susan
Magnier, One Great Cat completed the trifecta in both
the G2 Champagne S. and G2 Richmond S. as a juvenile
and was runner-up in the Nijinsky S. at
Leopardstown this term. One Great Cat is a full-brother
to another group performer in Where=s That Tiger and
was produced by Blissful, who sold for $4 million at
Keeneland November in 2000. One Great Cat=s second
dam is Angel Fever (Danzig), a full-sister to Classic
winner Pine Bluff.
