Mellanie Surprise our 3yr filly still holds her entry for our Derby (12 furlongs turf).
The trainer advised me, bring her back to 7-9 furlong races.
He trained her dam, the full sisters of her dam, the whole family from the last three generations.
Up to now she is by far the best of the whole pack up to 9 furlongs, keeping some 12pds at least in hand.
The sought of better horses at the distance 12 furlongs failed in their last tests or not showing the quality needed for the job nor the time needed for the race.
Or will I follow his advice (the trainer) and look out for 7-9 furlong condition races in germany, as nothing remains for her in our homecountry
Unless to the states, we have to enter her two weeks before the race,
(with the last stakes beiing paid)
and confirm it a week before the race is actually run).
Our last try, 2 yrs ago, with a filly was run knowing she handled the distance with ease. She became 3rd. This one now is at least 25pnds better than the one 2yrs ago
Any advice welcome
In our Derby or not???

I just don,t now at this time.
It might be our last chance to start in our Derby, but not at any costs
She proved her quality at around 8-9 furlongs so in the autumm there are
plenty of possibillities left.
If the distance proves to be too long, it will take plenty of TLC and R and R
to get her right again as she is a genuine sort of filly
The dam raced once at 12 furlongs and become 12th of 14 (her derby)
winning distances 7,5 furlong 9 furlong 9 wins out of 44 starts and a lot of places and shows

On pedigree Mellanie’s sire Platini (named after the famous French soccer-player) is a sire with relatively more classic and stout offsprings than those with intermediate influences, he is a better sire of fillies than of colts. Mellanie’s dam was a 9 furlong horse. Platini’s dam Prairie Darling, who is dam of another G1-offspring – Paolini, and so one of Germany’s great contemporary broodmares, won just one race – a maiden over 9 furlongs, and was a ¾ lengths beaten 2nd in a listed race over the same distance (ironically it was in the Festa-Rennen at Baden-Baden – the race that gave Mellanie a little disappointment three weeks ago). In contrary to his half-brother Platini Paolini was not a true stayer by European standards – his best performance was a win over just under 9 furlongs at Dubai.
So much speaks against Mellanie’s stamina. What’s about the class of the other entries in the Dutch Derby? How many of them were already beaten by Mellanie? I don’t know much about the Dutch Derby – in recent years in our Derby there is no win by a top-class intermediate horse or even a miler. Their racing-class was just good enough for second or third place in that race.
Of course I personally would appreciate watching Mellanie at my “home-track” at Düsseldorf and meet You and perhaps Your family again after our remarkable common one-day-tour to Baden-Baden. At the moment the Düsseldorf-race shows few but strong competitors.

The decision is finally made by our trainer, as we could not decide as owners.
She,s entered for our Derby. 12 furlong turf lefthanded
He said if she,s run from last, like she does in most cases, nothing will harm her as we are having a female rider ( low weight) on her back.
She shows real closing speed in her last outing against older filly and
mares.
She gets a big racesaddle on her back and a little bit of lead. Nerveous already. A fortnight to go.
