Winding down the meet, last 3

Postby Roguelet » Wed Nov 22, 2006 7:18 am

Some of you may remember my furious attempt to get names turned in to the Jockey Club on my two remaining nameless babies before the stroke of midnight a while back... I got one in at about 11:59 and the other at about 12:01, but the JC was kind enough to waive the fee for me... ringing any bells?

ANYWAY...

Those two are racing tonight at Hoosier Park. It has been one hassle after another with both of these horses. Native Cowboy is in the first race of the evening. This will be his first start after about a month trying to get a gate card (during which time he should've had his card several times and should've already run twice by now! ) He was training elsewhere and let's just say... no, I won't say anything other than we brought him to Hoosier Park and they gave him his card... should've done that a month ago. Have no idea how he'll do, don't know if he'll like the distance or not, just clueless clueless clueless... let's just hope he makes it around the track and comes home without incident.

The other one has been another "one issue after another" horse, again most of which has been entirely not his fault! After a trainer change and some problem-fixing he's finally running now. This will actually be his 3rd start. He wants distance and appears to be a closer, but as usual they are not writing the races that our horses need, so he'll be running short and probably won't do much. He's in the 11th race tonight, Dark Nemesis. This is the first foal out of White Cerf, who I know a couple of you saw in person and admired... what an amazing mare, and talk about a closing kick... I guess that's where DN gets it from, although he hasn't honed his to her spectacular level of ability yet.

And, in the spirit of not writing races for our horses, we are running War Proposal where we don't want her tomorrow. She's in the 8th at Hoosier. She's been running in Allowance NW3 this meet, short... they won't write it longer (which she would prefer.) She's been doing well enough, but not great, and we've been wanting to drop her A LITTLE BIT. The only $10,000 claimer they had she wasn't eligible for due to wins, and there's just nothing between the NW3 Allowance and rock bottom out here unless you want to go in open company. So, since the NW3 hasn't worked for us and we're out of time in this meet, we're going rock bottom. It's a mile, which should work well for her distance-wise, but she's been going 6 furlongs for so long, I hope she remembers how to go that extra distance! We're really doing this to go for a win, but the way our meet has been going, she'll come in worse here than she has in the Allowance races!

Anyway, hopefully between the three of them they can pool together and at least cover their training bills this month!

Roque, it,s about the same with mellanie, she,s fit and ready but no races
for her. Only 8,5 furlong or 12,5 furlong on the sand late december in
Germany. 4 hours up and 4 back.

Wishing you and your horses luck, crossing my fingers.

Well, Cowboy just raced... let's hope it gets better. It can't get much worse. I can't wait to hear what the trainer has to say...

Not injured, just super-green. I guess he was somewhat shocked to have dirt in his face and didn't think much of that, then apparently the bright lights at the grandstand were such an interesteing phenomenon that it took all of his attention to stare at those. Apparently he was bucking and ready to go again after the race. OK, so he just doesn't get it yet... let's hope he learned something. He will probably keep racing, he certainly hasn't done enough to need a break!

As for Nemesis, he started well, probably too well since he seems to want to come from behind. He started fading at the turn, and then he got cut off pretty bad to top it all off. He's fine too, though. The trainer has some adjustments he wants to make, but for now he will most likely get some time off and will try again in the Spring at Indiana Downs.

This is about how our meet's been going... can't get the races we want and when we finally stick a horse in somewhere, it's not pretty. Let's just hope War Proposal can break the streak. There's another filly in there that's making a big class drop too, and she's been doing well in the higher levels, so we'll see...

Is Cowboy wearing blinkers? He kind of sounds a bit like Smokie, one of the horses I have a share in. Blinkers did help Smokie, although he's still so daft he hasn't realised that when the other horses turn, he's supposed to as well. He sulked in the barn for about three weeks after his first race when he got a lot of dirt in his face. But he did win in the end and so will Cowboy.

I honestly don't know if he ran in blinkers or not. I had planned to go out there but there was just too much going on getting ready for Thanksgiving so I watched on TVG, and he wasn't in the camera much.

War Proposal took second. She jumped out and took the lead and I thought she would hold it, but she got passed in the stretch. Since this was her first time racing over six furlongs this whole meet, I'm not sure she was 100% ready for that distance. She CAN go the distance, though, and I think she actually does best at this distance. I think we're going to try her at MTR once or twice and if she doesn't do well there, we'll bring her back to the farm.
